New legislation on age
On July 1, 2022, a new bill will come into force which means that it will no longer be legal to ask about a job applicant's age in the application process. It's a bill amending the Discrimination Act, where age will no longer be a screening parameter. Instead, new employees will be assessed on the basis of their job application and qualifications.
The bottom line is that a candidate should not be rejected because of their age.
As an employer, you need to be aware:
- That you are banned if you request an applicant's age in connection with the job application or through electronic recruitment systems.
- That age and date of birth fields in recruitment systems must be removed.
- That if you violate, the consequence will be a fine.
Customizations in Elvium
The new law relates to the use of recruitment systems, which is why we have permanently removed the option to ask about age in the application form. We will of course take the new changes into account to make it possible to comply with the law.

Does this apply to all positions?
There are situations where it is okay to ask about age. For example, positions that are covered by a collective agreement if young people under the age of 18 are to be hired. In addition, it is also legal to ask about age if companies have a senior policy that is aimed at attracting older people.
